This is through the grapevine, but my source seems reliable. At my usual Sunday trap shot, a fellow who I've seen a few times mentioned that 1100 Remington 12 gauges with synthetic furniture were on sale at WalMart for a mere $328. His buddy had bought one and I got to handle it.The guy I knew was going back after shooting, saying his wife would kill him but he really wanted one. So did I.

The finish didn't seem quite as glossy as other 1100s I've been around, but was glossy and not matte. The stock seemed to have standard Remington dimensions,it and the forearm were black synthetic material, recoil pad included.

A 28" vent ribbed bbl tops the working end and it's threaded for Remchokes. Comes with just one, Modifed.

I GUESS it handles 3" mags, but don't quote me. Didn't think to look. A small matter.

This would be a great all around shotgun for a reasonable price, maybe more than reasonable.

1100 is 2-3/4" only. They used to make a magnum model but discontinued it with the 11-87 model.

Bahh

My Wally Mart charges $410.

Called a more rural store and they were asking $398. I was told that they never go on sale. I'm sure that is the California Wally Marts only. We do things differently..ah..when we have Lectricity.

Wall Mart 1100's

Remington produced the synthetic stocked 1100's for Wall Mart at Wall Mart's request. It seems that Wall Mart felt that the 1100 would sell better than the 11-87. According to one Remington employee we have Wall Mart to thank for the 1100's that are being produced today. Remington had intended to discontinue the 1100 in favor of the 11-87.

Thanks for the clarifications, guys. This seems to be a good deal and for those of us in need of a good shotgun maybe a great opportunity...

It's not just the PRK. In PA. they have them for 369.00. Mine will be coming home on Friday. What store has them for 328. Maybe I can try to get the same price here. Hell its worth a try 40 bucks in my pocket is better than in their cash register. They are only 2 3/4 chambers.

Hmm, I may have to make a trip to Wally World. I'd prefer a 3" chamber but can live with a 2 3/4" (I rarely shoot 3's anyway although did sorta want them for turkey).

I pretty much decided to pass on the Turkish gun my buddy was going to pick up for me across the pond in order to jump on a shot at a nice Marlin 93 in .30-30 so finding a good semi locally, and a Remington no less, may be too good a deal to pass up.

Where are the stores selling for $328 at? Maybe I can use that as a club to beat up my local Wallyworld with.

What's the problem with the 1100 in 12 ga.?

I've got to ask, because it seems to me that folks have suggested avoiding the 12, but the 1100 in 20 ga. was just fine.

Also, can you use a variety of chokes with this gun?

i've had 2.3/4 and 3" 1100's over the years and the only difference i can find in them is that the 3" only has one gas hole under the barrel--if you ever see a 3" barrel for sale you should buy it because it will instantly make your 1100 a 3"......Dick...PS. i've interchanged the barrels and they work fine.....

Gary, most recent 1100s are set up for Remchokes, the propietary choke tubes Remington has. The one I posted about comes set up for tubes but with only one, a Modified.

Ain't nothing wrong with an 1100 in 12 ga. Not now, not ever...

Rem. 1100 NIB $206

Yup, that is the plan. Wally Mart will lower the price on these ten percent per week until they reach $206. Evidently, they will not be carrying this gun and they are blowing them out the door.

BTW: The sales person that I was trying to buy this item from got a bug up his ssa and would not sell the gun to me. I had to go to the asst. warehouse manager to even get him to recognize that it was on sale. I drove for over one hour to purchase the 1100. Well, this morning the department manager told me via phone that he would send my papers through as they should have been yesterday and that he would give me the price as of the day that I pick it up. Guess what that means. I can wait a few weeks. So, that is how I know that it is going down to $206.

$206???

Woohoo! I think I'll have to get one too! My guess is that they would all be gone before they get down to that price though, so it's a matter of timing and being in the right place at the right time.

Gary H, you're in NorCal? I'm in SoCal and I've got several WalMarts around here. Gotta call and check this deal out. Hmmmm... price drops 10% a week, tack on California waiting period and the final price is... $1.98!!! j/k Just don't go past 30 days or you'll have to reDROS it.

Just confirmed $328 in Oxnard, Calif.

Goin' to get one now. Guy is holding one for me. I let my wife read the posts above to show her what a good deal it was. All she seemed to notice was the part where Dave's friend' buddy's wife was going to kill him when he got home. See you later, maybe.

Regards from a soon-to-be Rem. 1100 owner.

Take Some Wally World Advice

Wally's sales people won't know what they have got, even if they are looking at the gun. If they say that they have it, then they probably have it. If they say they don't, they very well may have it. I was at a store and the sales person told me that they didn't have it and I was pointing to the gun. I had to get a warehouse manager to get the guy to help me. They also don't know about what is for sale.

Out of 8 WalMarts I called, only 2 knew about the $328 clearance price, and only 1 of those actually had it in stock at that price. At the other stores that had it in stock it was priced at $369 and $410.

The guy at the one store that had it in stock for $328 knew nothing about a 10% a week discount. Well now I'm having pre-buyers remorse. At $206, I'd jump on it but even at the $328 price I'm hesitant. It's not like I need another 1100. I've got 2 already.

Gary H, how do you figure $206?

$328 - 10% = $295.20
- 10% = $265.68
- 10% = $239.11
- 10% = $215.20

The $206 was 50% of the normal price and is as low as it will go. The actual number was quoted me by the local manager of the sporting department. I rather doubt that many will make it that far, but who knows.

I just got back.

I bought mine at the $328 price, and it was a Remington 1100 12 gauge Synthetic, as on the Remington web page. I didn't pay for it yet; you don't pay in California until you pick it up. The guy wrote the price and the serial number on my DOJ pick-up receipt, and he told me that if the price went down before I picked it up, I would pay whatever the price was that day.

When I talked to him on the phone before (see earlier post), he had to call me back to give me a price and seemed really surprised that I knew about it. He called back after about ten minutes and I told him I was on my way.

Woo Hoo.

P.S. Check out this article.

Ledbetter -- What was the finish like on the 1100 you are purchasing? I was in my local Wal-Mart today, and the 1100 they had was matte black and not the semi-gloss blued finish described by Dave McC's initial post. They were also apparently unaware of any $328 price, and had it listed at $369. In addition to being matte black, the vented rib on the barrel was simply flat rather than having the longitudinal grooves I've seen on other 1100's. Is the "clearance" 1100 a different animal from this one? If so, I may call around to find a Wal-Mart that has it ... Thanks.

It was not really shiny, but it was blued, not parkerized.

Check out this photo, which is worth a thousand words.

What is the lightest load the 1100 12 ga. will shoot and eject reliably? Will it shoot the 7/8 Winchester high speeds ok and eject them all the time? The Remington site didn't say.

http://www.remington.com/firearms/shotguns/1100syn.htm

Thanks.

I do not have first hand experience, but I understand from previous posts that you can open up the gas port and have very reliable cylcing of light loads. Of course, that assumes that you don't try then use heavy hunting loads.

Some of the Geezer Squad have 1100s, and they use light loads, mostly 1 oz jobs. 7/8 oz may be a little too light for reliable functioning.

I'd get the gun and change the ammo if needed.

My Wal-Mart has them on clearance (red sticker) for $369 right now. I'm going to keep a weekly tab on them; if they drop below $250 as Gary H suggests, I may be sleeping in the dog house for a while, but I'll have a new 1100.
