H&R Ultra Hunter .25-06
I have one of these and was wondering what kind of accuracy I can expect from it. Any one done any testing with it?

I read a review in Gun Tests that put the H&R Ultra in .25-06 up against a single shot .25-06 from Dakota Arms. I believe the title of the article was "The Prince and the Pauper"
Anyway, accuracy comparisons were pretty much a wash, with a slight edge going to the "Pauper." IIRC, overall accuracy for the H&R averaged 1.25" at 100 yards. |

Holiday, if you wind up not quite happified with the groups you get, there are two things that are pretty easy: First, email Sierra and tell them the twist rate of your barrel and ask the range of bullet weights that will work best.
Then, do a search here for "bedding" and "bedding + forearm", etc. There are a couple of very easy home-brew improvement methods to tighten up your groups. Art |

My dad has a couple of those HR rifles in 223 and 243, he has had great success with both as a knock-around varmint rifle. Both get sub-moa groups with Federal premium ammunition.

Thanks for the information, I think with the proper loads this will be a great shooter. I was wondering about bedding the forearm, I'll have to check that out.

Let me know how your Ultra Rifle does. I've been wanting one for a while, now. I think it would make a great big game rifle up here around the Skyline area of Northern Alabama. |
