Have $400, what am I missing?
I came accross a windfall of $400 and need to spend it before the wife does. Here's what I already have:
Short Guns: H&R DA .22 .32 Mag Single-Six .357 Security Six 22/45 Ruger Long Guns: Rem 870 Slug Gun Win 1300 bird gun. 10/22 Old marlin .22 bolt gun 22-250 Savage CCW is not an option in my county. Prefer revolvers because I reload and get tired of picking up brass. I am thinking it needs to be spent on a handgun (thus putting this in the "handgun" forum) but rifle suggestions are welcome. Have zero desire for a SKS, AK or "battle" rifles. We can't use high-powers for deer hunting in Iowa. What would you add to my collection and why? LK |

Dude, you need to give her half.
If she finds out you didn't, she'll shoot you with whatever you bought with it. |

You don't have a S&W K frame. You need a K frame. Start looking for a used K frame.

For revolvers, get the K-frame. If you want something different, get a 1911 Rock Island Tactical .45.

Smith K frame. It can be a .38 if you want to shoot for fun and cheap reloading. And you can do +P in the modern ones too if need be. You could go for a magnum but pay more, and I think you already have one. You might get a .38 and have some left over for accessories or ammo so you can go right to work. If you had more money, you would have vastly wider choices like a .44. Well I suppose you could do a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 alot less than a Smith DA .44. You might look at a SAA clone in the more economical models. That can still get you big bore but not in the magnum range. Maybe that is for you if you want something bigger than 32 or 38.

Lots of folks recommending a K frame. Someone needs to explain to me why I need one when I have a perfectly good .357 Ruger already. Confused?
Done the .45 thing before. Sold it. Sometimes I regret it but I'm not looking to do it again. Front runners so far are: maybe another .22 DA (3" barreled though?), maybe a rifle caliber handgun (a used .243 savage striker would be great), maybe a .357 lever gun, maybe a snub or 3" 38. LK |

Ever shot a K frame? Ever experienced the balance of a K frame? The trigger? Not to mention the looks. There's just something about 'em. The just feel right. I really can't explain it, but somehow I just shoot better when I'm shooting a K. Not to say that I don't shoot well with my 686, and not to knock your Ruger. After all, I could have made your same argument with regards to my 686 and getting a K frame. I love my L frame and wouldn't part with it, but it isn't a K frame. Then again, those who are suggesting ammo are on to something as well...

.22 Ruger
How about a nice .22 semi like a ruger mark II/III, inexpensive to shoot and loads of fun.
Reloading supplies would be my next choice, can never have too much.

You didn't say you wanted suggestions about the nicest handgun you could buy. You said you had $400 to spend...about the right price for a lnib G19, which, functionally, is probably superior to the Hi-Power about which you fantasize. If you do wise up and try a G19, you'll find out why so many would recommend them to you. They're fun to shoot; reliable; easy to repair, with your having NEVER to endure the expense of a gunsmith; 15-rd. mag; waranteed forever.

You have some shotguns. How about an Aerial Assault trap thrower if you've got some land? Got a safe? How about some defensive training.

Dan's is selling the SIG P6 for $259. And the Walther P1 for $299. Both would be nice for a collection and an inexpensive way to get a high quality 9mm autoloader. The P6 is the more modern design. The P1 is the more historic.
I REALLY want to buy one of each but I'm all tapped out for more guns right now! http://www.dansammo.com/firearms.asp Gregg |
