Dating Winchester Model 70
Serial is 764842, the lookup tool on winchester's website says it's not valid.
The full serial is engraved on the bottom of the bolt, matching the receiver. Barrel is stamped Winchester Proof Steel. It's a .243, heavy barrel. My uncle gave it to me 20 years ago or so. |

Proofhouse.com says 1965.
When they redesigned the Model 70 in 1964, they jumped serial numbers ahead to 700000. |

The new post 64 began at end of 1964. Serial numbers were skipped so production in 1964 began at number 700000. After 1968 prefix G is found in front of numbers.
