Saw a Remington 597SS today
I've been checking out semi auto .22lr rifles/carbines, and saw one of the stainless Rem 597s today. It looks like a copy/version of the Ruger 10/22. But I'm guessing they improved it, or why bother?
Does anyone have any knowledge of these Remingtons? |

You will not be disappointed with a 597, best 22 Remington has put out in a long time. 6mm

The one I saw has a hardwood stock and stainless barrel, but manufacturers list laminate wood stocks now. I worry that they may have discontinued the hardwood for laminated due to warping/inacuacy.
The store is asking $220 new for this gun. I did not shoot it, but it feels better in my hands than the Ruger 10/22. I'm thinking real good about this rifle . . . |

One of the best semi's on the market today, and much better than Remington's Viper and much simpler than the Nylon 66. Plus, it has a great set of iron sights on it.

I have a 597 with stainless barrel and synthetic stock. Have had it about a month, hasn't failed yet and I have not cleaned it after several range sessions.
It is acurate and feels better in my hands than the ruger. Volquartsen has come out with replacement barrels and trigger units for the 597. More stuff will follow from other parts makers. I hate the accursed 10 round magazines, this gun needs a 30 rounder Other than the mags, I have no complaints with the gun. And the mags work fine, just not enough rounds

Geoff, can swivel studs be mounted into the synthetic stock?
How is the stock trigger? |
