Best "Value Bulk Box" Of .22LR?

Out of blind brand loyalty from my time before TFL, I've been doing "target work" with Remington's Golden Bullet .22LR that comes in a box of 550 from Wally-World.

It works just fine, but I'm curious if there are any better choice out there.

What say you?

in my high standards and marlins the wally world bulk pack u mentioned is fairly decent, when i wnat more accuracy though i spend more on stingers, just my experiences though

Had very good results with Wal-Mart Dynapoints. None of my rifles like anything from Big Green.

The firearm will be the one deciding. Some .22s will love one brand and another just will not function with that ammo. Just the nature of .22lr firearms.

The more I research into answering this question, the more I find myself agreeing with your statement...

For instance: Winchester Xpert. Many seem to hate it, while others love it.

Why is this though? Why are .22LR firearms more "ammunition specific" vs. other designs?

I used to shoot the Remington Golden Bullets, untill I tried the Federals. They are SO much cleaner than the Remingtons

My 10/22 loves Winchester Dynapoints. I'll shoot nothing else through it for target/plinking.

I agree with mtnbkr. In a serious test of about 15 different .22LR types, both bulk and premium, I found Win Dynapoints to be almost as accurate as several offerings from Eley. They also functioned better than the other bulk pack ammo. Considering bulk packs only, I would place Federal 550 in a close second place and Win Xpert at a distant last place due to inconsistent function and accuracy.

Now before you go out and stock up on Dynapoints, I also have to agree with Majic. What works in our rifles or handguns might turn out to be a non-performer in yours.

Again, before you go out and stock up on Dynapoints, tell me where you can find them so I can stock up on them. I only have a few boxes left of the hoard I once had. I can't seem to find them any longer. Kmart used to carry them, but no longer.

As to why some firearms like one brand over another - I dunno. Maybe it's due to wide variations in machining and less attention to close tolerances in the mass produced .22 offerings. Maybe it's due to the wide variation in barrel lengths. But, I guess that argument wouldn't hold up if, say, one 10/22 works best with one and lousy with another and yet a different 10/22 (same bbl length) proves the opposite is true.

Mal, I get Dynapoints at Wal-Mart. The last time I bought any, it was at one of the Wal-Marts in Manassas. I can't remember if it was the old or new, but I'm pretty sure I've purchased them at both.

Given the illusiveness of the Dynapoints, how do you feel about the Federal bulk pack?

Have you tried the Remington bulk pack (Golden Bullets)? How do you feel about them?

I just buy a couple thousand of each when I am at Walmart.

The Federals work better out of a couple of guns, while the Remingtons work better out of a couple of others.

Mal, they don't get many boxes in stock and those that they get tend to sell quickly. If you see them, buy them.

If you want, I can pick up a box or two for you next time I notice they have any.

As for Remington, for me I don't like Remington .22's of any type. I've been burned by their failure to fire too many times to be comfortable with them. I'm not sure what the problem is, but they don't seem to use the same mechanism or QC other manufacturers use to prime their cases. I have done post mortems on several rounds that F'edTF and found that there was no primer compound in them at all or there were large voids of compound.

Chris - no need to buy any extras for me. Now that I know W-M in Manassas carries them on occasion, I'll look closer for them each time I go by the sporting goods section.

I have a savage .22 semi automatic rifle and i first used the remington bulk golden bullet pack, and i have never had to change the brand of ammunition.They work great for just plinking. Does anyone know if there are any hi cap mags for savage .22 calabers ?????

I don't think any store takes back ammunition, unopened or not.

Might as well keep the Xperts and shoot them up. They're not trash, just not quite as good as the others available for near the same price.

Personally, I shoot the Dynapoints or Fed 550 for general varmint control, practice, etc. For serious stuff I use Federal Gold Match 900 (both A & B, B being subsonic), and almost an equal amount of Lapua Multi-Match. I've found Fed 900B and Lapua M-M to be the equal of Eley Tenex in my rifle at about 1/2 the cost per box.

I also like the federal 550 in all my pistols, but stay away from any .22 that says Remington. Not sure what the powder is but way to dirty for me.

I use the Remington Gold Bullet 550ct box in my Mark 2 and my 10/22. No problems with either and about as accurate is they can be I suppose. Genereal plinking, nothing really specific.

the cheapest stuff i use is the cci blazer brick. get it for 8.98 never had a problem like with the federal loose pack i usually get about 15 duds per 525

My experiences are the same, a couple of my guns like the federal better so I would put the dynapoints in second.

Better than both though is federal lightning, now sold as high velocity target, my custom 10/22's love these.
