(NY) Navy Vet Arrested After Shooting Alleged Burglar

Navy Vet Arrested After Shooting Alleged Burglar
Dixon Arrested On Gun Charge

POSTED: 10:28 a.m. EST December 15, 2002

NEW YORK -- A U.S. Navy veteran who shot and wounded a burglar inside his Brooklyn home has been arrested on a weapons charge, authorities said.

New York City police said that Ronald Dixon, 27, woke Saturday morning and saw a man in his home. He grabbed a pistol from his closet and then confronted the man -- who was allegedly going through drawers in Dixon's baby son's bedroom.

Dixon shot the man -- identified by police as Ivan Thompson -- once in the chest and once in the groin. Thompson is in critical but stable condition at Brookdale University Medical Center. He was arrested on a burglary charge.

Dixon was arrested on criminal possession of a weapon because his gun was not registered in New York.

The bureaucracy deals with criminals the best it can; a frustrating job.

Average citizen commits a technicality; YAY! We can handle this!

This is the same thing you see when a white person shoots a black person. What exactly did being in the Navy have to do with this other than giving the guy the good sense to protect what's his? No one in the Navy can do anything wrong without "Navy" being the first word in the headline. The media just loves to use that to conjure in someone's mind a age old stereotype that sailors are drinking, whoring, gambling, fightin, wife beating lowlifes. Now with the probable exception of drinking and gambling, I've had about enough! When do we hear about "Peace Corps worker kills seven meat eating scum in local McDonalds"? Same as you would never see "Black drug addict shoots white man" But seem to see "White gun nut shoots harmless black robber" How about we report the facts and not bias?

Other than that, nice shooting.

Wonder what Thompsons "RAP" sheet looks like?

Serves Dixon right for trying to waste one of NYC's precious criminals.

Joe, my perception of this was just the opposite: sort of "look at what the evil police are doing to an honored veteran!" Of course, my viewpoint may be different from most peoples'.
