Will this conversion kit fit this 1911?

Ok I really want a para expert GI 1911....I also want a .22 conversion kit for it so I can plink out of it. It says this conversion kit fits any 1911 that doesnt have the ramped barrel. Does the para have the ramped BBL?

All Paras feature a match grade ramped barrel, so I would have to say it wouldn't work.

You could always go with a Springfield Mil Spec. It is similar to the GI Expert, but runs about $100-$150 more depending on if you get the parkerized or the stainless version.

damn : (

I really wanted the PARA for the sights.... I love the price of the Mil-Spec GI 1911's but here's what I dont like those low sights...

Edit: That springfield is lookin like a good deal though : ) Nice sights, lowered ejection port, I can use that .22 kit....wow...

I hear you. I wish the Mil Spec had dovetailed Novaks. That would be so much better than the sights they are currently equipped with. But I guess that is reserved for the Loaded series and higher.

I would recommend the Mil Spec over the GI version. The Mil Spec has slightly better sights, a lowered and flared ejection port, and I believe the frame is already cut to install a beavertail grip safety without further frame modification. This is where the extra money comes into play, and IMO, it's worth it for the extra features you get.

Nothing is wrong with the grip safety that comes on it stock. I prefer the beavertail grip safety because it allows you to get a higher grip on the gun.

The Para Expert G.I. does not have a ramped barrel.

Really? I didn't know that. All of the Para ads I have ever seen state that all of their pistols feature ramped match grade barrels.

You are correct. My apologies to the OP for giving you incorrect information. Here is a pic straight off of the Para website showing the GI Expert fully disassembled. It looks like the only 1911 Para builds that doesn't use a ramped barrel.

I have a Ciener .22 conversion for my 1911. It's very accurate and changes out with the .45 slide/barrel in about 60 seconds. PK

Check with Para about whether the Ciener kit will work. (Or check with Ciener.)

As already noted, wen the conversion kit is installed, the entire top end is swapped, so whether the Para does or doesn't have a ramped barrel is, I think, largely irrelevant.

You might consider spending a bit more and getting a Marvel kit -- the standard of the industry... Sometimes cheaper is good; sometimes it isn't.

Walt....

I think it is relevant. The .22 conversion kit says it DOESNT work with ramped BBLs. Because when you remove the barrel....you remove the ramp. I think the .22 conversion kit uses the ramp in the frame of the gun : )
