Shooting range pix

Eleven years ago, six friends and I built a hunting cabin in a remote area of Potter County, PA ....'God's Country'. We've been making improvements to the property every year and this is our latest addition. A covered two station range with backers set at 50 and 100 yards. Thought you might like to see some pictures I took last week. More like just showin' it off.

Off the bench.

One of the benches.

And a view toward the cabin.

And my wife and I on the porch.....Grandson took the pic

Very nice! It looks new. Hopefully it will stand up under the weather. You probably get a fair amount of snow there.

That looks great, Pappy!

My family has some land in Southern Ohio that we've built a cabin on. We don't have a range that nice yet, but seeing those pictures gives me some ideas.

Thanks for posting.

They've disappeared for some reason.

I'll look into it.

I don't know why no pic's showed last night, guys. They seem to be working this morning.

Halcon, it's only made it through one winter so far, but it was a deep one. According to weather bureau snow depth charts there was 6 ft. of snow on that roof at some point last winter. We don't even try driving back until April anymore....several miles of state forest road that never sees a plow, with lots of northern exposure curves that take forever to melt off. Then if you make it that far, there's the driveway..... ! Kinda vertical. My wife's car can make it up in the summertime, but it ain't easy. All our members own 4X4's, but even with those we've had to walk in when trying to make a trip up too early in the year.

One of the members is a construction supervisor for a large firm in the area and has been swingin' hammers his whole life. He handles our building designs and takes snow load into account. So far so good.....except for the very first year, but he'd rather I didn't talk about that.

6x6 posts, doubled-up 2x12beams, and rafters 12" on center rather than 16"....we'll see how she holds up.

That roof is pretty flat though.

Looks good!
If you can't see the pics, try right clicking on the X and select "show picture". You might have to do it several times. I'm about to give up on Imagestation as a hosting site myself.

Otay......I just spent the morning figuring out how my Comcast personal file storage space works, so that I can dump the Imagestation. I don't quite have all the bugs worked out yet. I have to figure out why the one pic is so huge. I thought that I had them all reduced to web size before storing......hmmm, musta missed one....back to the mill.

Edited to add: There, all better.

Oh, man, that's really mean! Tease us with a line like that, and then leave us hanging with no story!

That's really low, man.

Looks like a nice setup. With that terrain, I take it there's no 500 yard range?

The first winter was a very hard one (that was '93 and I even had to shovel my house roof in Harrisburg twice that winter), and we had only had the shell up so far.... no insulation, drywall, gasline for the lights, or plumbing yet. We came up in the spring to do some more work and found the roof collapsed into the second floor. :barf:

The main building in the picture is actually 'Model 2'. This time we used trusses in the roof instead of just rafters and crossmembers. In fact now it, and all our outbuildings, are well over-engineered. We're all too old now to go through that nightmare again.

Ten years later it's still there, so I guess we got it right in the end.

Looks like we could hold a TFL gathering or two there.

This would be a pretty good haul for most folks. And how do you feel about outhouses?

Looks great. That is my future plan/dream. Someday I want to own a few acres out in the country, build a small two man range, and enjopy shooting on my own land.

Nice range PappyJ, here's mine

Nice range and beautiful country there PappyJ. This is 100 yds, I can set for 200yds but my skill level(or lack there of) is very obvious at that range. So I stick to 100yds.
