According to IDPA website, minimum power factors are assigned to the different categories of firearms they recognize. For a stock service pistol or enhanced service pistol, the minimum factor is 125,000. Factor is determined by multiplying the weight of the bullet by muzzle velocity as tested per IDPA protocol. The basic information is always available in reloading manuals, so you should be able to calculate power factor from them.

There is an IPSC load list website I found a few years ago that a guy named Jeff Maass compiled. You may find it on a search. It has many pages of 40 loads and includes the data needed to figure out IDPA factors. In there is a load I use for the 40 and it easily makes the IDPA factor. It is 180 JHP with 6.9 grains of Power Pistol. I seat to OAL of around 1.125". Montana Golds, Gold Dots, Hornady, Sierra and Golden Sabres all perform well. It is an accurate load, and velocity is typically 1050 fps.

I Shoot 180gr Lead Bullets through a G23 with a Lone Wolf Barrel.

I Load as Follows:

180gr Lead TC over 3.8gr of Unique
791 Avg FPS (4" Barrel) this makes a 142 Power Factor. Soft shooter and still Cycles slide with a Stock spring.

I Also Shoot a 180gr Jacketed Bullet with 4.0gr of Red-Dot and It's a soft shooter also.
Both of these have WAY Less felt recoil then Factory WWB Ammo.

Both these Loads will Knock a steel Target down with no problem.

I Hope this Gets you rolling in th right Direction.

I shoot a 175gr LSWC thru several different .40s loaded with 5grs of Bullseye. Haven't gotten around to chronographing it but bet it makes power! I'm sure it makes over the 750fps that it would take with that PF of 125.
