Press ram sticky
Anyone have this problem? My RCBS rockchucker seems to be binding, I tried cleaning it with a degreaser but no change.

While I'm no expert, every other week or so, I wipe off the ram as best I can and relubricate it with a very small amount of light oil - 3&1 oil seems to work fine.

What Al said, plus, every couple of months remove the ram and wipe the grit out of the hole in the press where it rides

What Al and WildReloadingGuyInMyHometownAnchorageAlaska said.
My RockChucker gets a little sticky too, so I wipe it off and oil it with Breakfree CLP. |

Borrow the Singer sewing machine oil from SWMBO and remember to put it back so you don't get caught.

Nuts too tight
I had the same problem on the same press. I would remove and lube the ram after every session with no improvement. I knew mine was not as smooth as it should be because my friend has the same press and his is smooth as silk. The problem on my press was the two lock nuts that are near the bottom of the press were too tight. They were pulling the linkages together too tight and causing a bind. Try to loosen both nuts 1/4 turn and I bet it will instantly be better. In fact you can adjust just how much tension you want on each stroke of the ram with these 2 nuts. Light lube frequently works better than heavy grease or oil on the ram and hinges. Let us know what works. Joel

What they said but are you sure its the ram? What are you doing when it binds? Sizing 32 acp cases or big tall 300 winmag cases?
I was getting binding (vibration) with 45/70 sizing with Imperial sizing wax, switched to Bullshop lube and everything was superslick then. If its your ram then it should bind even when cycled empty. Is it? |

The main culprit is primer schmutz

I prefer Corrosion X for lubing these things since it prevents corrosion and creeps into places you can't see.

I've never felt the need to pull the ram and it's been fine for 20+ years. |

Anyone try lubricating a press with Molybdenum Disulfide? I know the Machine Tool Maintenance guys here use it on lathe chucks and machining center tool changer mechanisms. It might work real well, although I’m not sure about it’s corrosion resistance properties. I think there’s something about matching grain size to the surface finish of the parts being lubricated.
