Bathroom gun?
Kinda random question, but who keeps a handgun in thier bathroom? If so how/where do you keep it. Just curious, I do keep most of my guns in the safes, but like to have one close by at all times. Hell, my watch usually comes off my wrist as soon as I hit the door along with my keys and wallet out of my pocket, so obviously I am not a big fan of carrying in my home. I realized though that I don't keep anything in the bathroom, and I think subconsiously I was worried about the humidty. Is this a valid concern?
Edit; mods, I meant to place this in general handguns, please move it. Thanks |

For a good laugh about this subject, see this thread

Yea I figuered that I could search and find something, but it is kind of hard to search from my phone. Thats what got me thinking about it, surfing the the forum while on my phone in the bathroom.

When you think about it, the bathroom is the most vulnerable room in the house. In my master bath, for instance, there is no window, therefore no escape route. Not to mention the fact that an intruder will most likely catch you with your pants down (or butt-nekkid ).
A gun in the throne room is a good idea IMO as long as it is stored in a safe manner. |

Bathroom is inside the master bedroom.
Master bedroom is somewhat hardened with a good strong door and some coincidental re-enforcement of the walls done while remodeling (yea brick). so to be honest I'm not too worried while in the bathroom Last edited by ZeSpectre; April 11, 2008 at 08:42 AM. |

Activshootr,
That was my point exactly. I think this topic needs a good discussion However I think a few people will not understand the seriousness that this topic deserves. |

For bathroom/shower self defense, the best option is a knife that will not rust. A diving knife, titanium, ceramic, or on the cheap side one of those plastic knives, which are actually pretty sharp and would be plenty good for stabbing, but not sharp enough for slashing.

Besides the bathroom, are there other rooms where you don't keep guns and you might want one nearby? Quote:

Put a snub concealed hammer in a pastic baggie. Or your normal sidearm under a towel, etc. Or eat a lot of beans, and the bad guy will refuse to come in...

I have been promoting this in self defense classes for years.
As has been mentioned, the bathroom is one of the places in your home you are most vunerable. We keep old Md10 S&W. Police trade ins in each of our bathrooms. Never had a problem with moisture. Here in Maine we do not have a high humidity climate, and I don't take the Smith into the tub rubber ducky hunting!! In our case the guns are kept in tall bathroom closets or vanity drawers. In a prior house I hung a Enfield revolver on a cup hook located inside the pipe chase for the shower. Also we have no little kids left at home... |

My closet is inside the master bath closet so I technically keep guns in the bathroom. I'm often in there for hours polishing my 6" magnum.

I believe this is just the ticket for bathroom protection. Load it up with dragons breath and it works really well for those tough clogs too.

I for one am becoming concerned about this thread
Clearly we are not safe in the bathroom, although I had not fully considered this prior to reading this thread. I realize my SD practice has significant gaps in it that should be corrected.
As soon as the weather warms up, I'm going to practice for the worst case scenario by learning to handle my M66 while covered with soapy water and clad only in a towel (a minor concession to administrative details). There is also clearly a market for a plastic hook mount for a holster than can be suspended from the bowl of the commode with a protective spray flap to cover the holstered gun.

I have a fire breathing Sheltie o death that guards the door while I am in the shower. She will attack and destroy any man or beast that disturbs her daddy while he is indisposed.
She is very smart and allows any beautiful naked women that wish to visit me in the throne room to enter. besides I always have my gun with me. |

I used to laugh at 'bathroom carry' posts, but not so much any more.
When I'm by myself in the house, I'll just place my SP101 on the toilet lid and throw a towel over it. I'm used to having *someone* in the house, so when it's just me I have these thought like, "what if someone breaks in, I'm in the shower with only soap to throw at them" etc. |

It doesn't sound that radical to me, Jacobie, with the increase in home invasions. There was a man killed in a town nearby a few nights ago. I'd think it would have to be well secured or hidden if the restroom would be used by guests. Another thing you could do is get an airweight snub and carry it with you everywhere. My 642-2 fits in the pocket of my robe.
