For those lusting after the Ruger LCP .380...
I'm getting enjoyment from all the buzz about the mini Ruger LCP, though nothing is known about its performance, durability, reliability, etc.
I'm gonna wait 'til the smoke settlles, and other handgun owners have paid to refine and de-bug it. Then, maybe, I'll take a look at it. 'Til then, here is a reminder of a past .380 wonders...

And the "AMT" shown is not 380 but the .45acp model. There are two 380 AMT designs, the original SA and the newer DAO. The ownership has changed hands at least four times so now High Standard claims to be the mfg. which they are not. The AMT clone is now made by Firearms Int. Inc. and only marketed by HS.
Should really include the NAA Guardian 380 since it's been around awhile too. og |

The same dude that designed the Grendel...now runs Kel Tec. That's why I don't have a Kel Tec.

I read that the owner of Grendel sold his factory to another bunch of investors/owners due to the lawsuits that were being leveled on the gun makers at the time. The owner of Grendel helped the new owners get going and then he bailed out. You just can't compare my first generation Grendel to any of the newer Kel-Tecs because the Grendel is superior in so many ways. I will admit that I am very unenthusiastic about any Grendels that were made after they switched a number of parts over to plastic to reduce costs and increase profits. I want as much metal as possible on my guns. The most important feature the Kel-Tec lacks is the repeat strike capability. All the Grendels had that. Kel-Tec doesn't. Truth be told, I am not to thrilled that my choice of carry gun (in the future, when I buy my Kahr MK40) will be striker fired, but I am most likely to go with racking the slide and getting a fresh round if I an in a situation that calls for me to shoo someone and the trigger pull produced no BANG. |

Kel-tec and Grendel are separate companies but Geore Kellgren is the main designer behind both of their guns. According to wikipedia:
Kel-Tec is a privately-owned Florida corporation. George Kellgren is an owner, and is the Chief Engineer. He is the Swedish designer who also designed many earlier Husqvarna (in Sweden), Swedish Interdynamics AB (in Sweden), Intratec, and Grendel brand firearms. Some of his designs have been excellent and others not much. He seems to have learned from his earlier mistakes and the designs for Kel-tec are excellent and innovative. I wish he would take another crack at a rimfire. The Grendel P-30 was a great idea. I'd like to see him try an updated version of that and a .22lr version. |

My God, that Smith & Wesson is the ugliest gun I've ever seen. :barf: Hard to believe it didn't last....
As a side note, I am interested in the Ruger .380, but I'll wait and see how it fares for a year or two.
