Enough Politics! Build my Custom Rifle
Heres the parameters...its so far a Husqvarna 1600 action with a Dakota Contoured #1 barrel, 24 inches. It is chambered (of course) for 6.5x55. its gonna be CerraKoted and will ride in a High tech synthetic stock.
The rest is still being decided...cost is no object 1. Use a Timney with side safety, or do a three position and fill the safety slot in the receiver with a milled plug? 2. Checker bolt handle two panel offset or three panel? 3. Barrel band sling swivel, or soldered on german stud...or none at all? 4. Barrel band front sight or simple williams or NECG H&H style or...... 5. Express rear, quarter rib, dakota style sight, NECG adjustable? 6. No rear sight at all..use auxiliary peep 6. Engraving....just the floorplate or go nuts (Im friends with a Guild Engraver) No hurry to do, this is for bext year..... WildhepmeAlaska |

Timney, and cost is no objection?
Canjar, perhaps even a single-set model. Your choice of safety.
Express sights on a quarter-rib with fold-up leaves for different ranges. Although your 6.5x55 is a bit flatter shooting than the old Nitros that used those sights earlier. Nitre or rust blueing. I'm gonna plum brown my own express rifle project, but that may be over the top for some folks. Floorplate release lever? |

Timney
Im not a big fan of band swivels on a barrel nor any other thing on a barrel.. but I could be talked into the german soldered one checkered bolt handle...three panels engraved floorplate ...and reciever barrel band front sight with the rear express sights

I vote against mounting a sling swivel on any sort of barrel band.
Tell us more about the stock you've got picked out. |

Standard Hi tech synthetic stock (which we believe is the ne plus ultra of sythetic stocks)..they are made by Bansners Ultimate rifles (http://www.bansnersrifle.com/hightech/index.html) wework closely with Mark Bansner, other than us , he is one of the top guys in the industry in custom lightweght bolt rifles....

Will your stock not have the studs that the picture shows?
I know you're going to want to shoot that rifle a lot. I'm going to call over to Wolf Performance Ammunition and see if they have any plans on making some steel-cased 6.5x55mm. If they do, maybe we can take up a collection to ship you a case. |

Nope, Canjar's still in business.
I've got two of their triggers in my business rifles. Hence me asking why WildAlaska went cheap on a Timney.
Mine are both single-set models, and look a lot like this: |

THAT'S IT! THAT'S IT!
Canjar My day is fer sure made. The Canjar is beutific "unset". Don't have to be a benchrest shooter or a ninja. Just don't push it forward and it's a working trigger of the gods. Gewehr98, where do you get them? Happy dance, happy dance, Canjar lives! Sorry, Wild. Didn't mean to hijack your thread. Canjar, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm |

Sorry, Hoss, never thought to ask. When I got back in the hobby all I heard about was Timney and Jewell.
Had a Canjar 3 decades ago and it was a revelation. After le grand puissance, we talk. I kept all our email on the Sauers, but I'm so smitten with that thing we just might build something around it. Childhood memories... |

WildAlaska, you poor besotten creature...
The Canjar trigger is most definitely NOT assigned to the exclusive domain of the paper-punching crowd. No more so than a Keplinger single-set trigger in a Ruger #1, or double-set triggers on a Sharps .45-110 or Hawken front-stuffer.
Jart, give these folks a call, they'll mail you their (small) catalogue: MH Canjar Co./Canjar Triggers 500 E. 45th Ave. Denver, CO 80216 (303)295-2638 A pic of my Canjar/Krieger/Vais-equipped 98 Mauser in 6.5-06: |

Just like finding out an old friend isn't dead, after all.
Now, I finally KNOW what's next on the acquisition agenda. 'Course, I'm probably the only member of TFL that DIDN'T know Canjar was still pumping out product. Embarassing, but I'm over it. |

I wouldn't say they're pumping out product, though.
More like squirtin' out a few units every month, kinda like Old Man Kart and his wunnerful 1911 barrels, if you know what I mean.
Which reminds me, I gotta get off my arse and order a Keplinger for my Ruger #1, too. |

We have a couple of them in the shop.....the guys arent enamoured of them as a hunting rifle trigger...
Ive been looking at the NECG set trigger so nothing is cast in stone in that area.... But first first...Three position or not??? WildbacktobasixAlaska |

OK, back on track, here.
I like the side safety. No reason, just personal prejudice. "Our ideas, your money" Fun. |
