Rare Glock

Came across this pic while surfing around. This is rare version of a G17 which is in use with some Israeli SF undercover units.

note: Not all in service are like that, this one is a rare example.

In service?

Is that pic from www.isayeret.com That's the only place I've ever seen a pic of that Glock associated with Israel. If it's from that page then the caption is A very rare photo of a modified Glock 17 with a safety catch and adjustable sights. Note that the Glock 17 usually only come with a Safe Action Trigger System, rather then a manual thumb safety lever as seen in this photo.

www.isayeret.com/weapons/glock17.htm

It doesn't say anything about a Glock with a safety in service with the IDF. I'd really like to get more info on that. Could you please post a link?

Yeah, that's the place where I saw it. (ton's of interesting stuff on that site. Did you see the sawn off CAR15?)

You are correct, Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like they are all modified like that. Just that some units use G17's. This one must have been part of a batch modified for some reason maybe testing. I also remember hearing a while ago that Glock actually modified some guns in this fashion (manual safety) while trying to get them accepted by some armed forces/police departments. I don't think any of them were ever mass produced though.

That's the elusive Glock w/manual safety:

...a modification originally ordered by the Tasmanian police. (Dunno if anyone else has used them officially)

I saw one on one of the auction boards for sale this week. It is either on auctionarms or for the hunt.com. Description was a 17 modified with external safety.

That's not the factory version

That's an aftermarket modification and parts. The gun pictured earlier is supposedly the Taz police gun, as Tamara pointed out.

I read soemwhere that the IDF is going to the glock 17 as their new service pistol. They used to carry (and still do) the browning highpower, the high power has a safety mounted on the frame.
This maybe the IDF contract pistol we see with a manual safety?

Read somewhere that the Austrian police wnated a g-17 with a safety also.

Glock 19

Some elite counter terrorist units use the Glock 17, but the Glock of choice for the IDF is the Glock 19C. It doesn't have any frame mounted safety other than Glock's Safe-Action. The transition won't happen over night so lots of units still use Browning HP, Jericho, and SIG Sauer.

According to Israyet.com, the Israelis use several 9mm pistols.

IMI Jericho 941 (Imported by Magnum Research as the Baby Eagle)
Sig P226
Sig P228
Glock 17
Browning Hi-Power (FN Mk. 3)

Source

Israyet.com is probably the best and most reliable web source on the IDF, but I think it's just behind the curve on the G19C. There was a discussion on www.glocktalk.com and a couple of IDF members said that the G19C was the new issue sidearm. If you do a thread search I'm sure you'll find the info.

Theres several companies here that will convert Glocks to external safety models. In doing this you void warranties with Glock. It's an old picture the Glock is a G17, 2nd generation. There are serrations on front or rear of grip, and no grooves or accessory rail on frame.SAFE-SHOOTING!
