I have absolutely had it up to here with the endlessly droned assertion that the "Easy Availability of Guns" is what causes these school shootings/public shootings/etc.

Guns have never at any time in this nation's history been harder to get. Before 1968, anybody could put money in an envelope and recieve any gun they wished in the mail. Any child tall enough to reach the counter and convince the clerk that it was okay with his parents could buy a semiautomatic pistol, magnum revolver, assault rifle or whatever this week's buzzword gun is. By this weak and faulty voodoo logic, the Brady Bill and the Crime Bill/Assault Weapons Ban cause school shootings. (How many happened before '94?)

Yes these incidents are more common on the news. Are they statistically more common? Has anyone even bothered checking on that? If you have 1 shooting per year per 1,000 schools, a nation with 1,000,000 schools is going to see more than one with 1,000. Are they more publicized?

Maybe they are, in fact, occurring at a higher frequency. But if so, The Causative Variable Is Not The Availability Of Guns. This point needs to be made as loudly as possible every time someone trots out that tired homily...

I agree Tamara. The media mantra / advocacy journalism is the American brand of psychological operations. Free people are a big obstacle to a regulated global economy.

Some people are beyond help. Here's an example of a discussion I am currently involved with, with someone called:
PRINGELS at <pringels@brutele.be>...

him:
"Killing people is BAD. Didnt your mother tell you that."

me:
Yes.

him:
I dont think so...

me:
I know so.
_________________________

me:
So I should get severely beaten and raped instead?

him:
YES. Or call an officer, or call someone, or do something, BUT YOU CANNOT KILL HIM.There are police officers to do that..

me:
So I should get severely beaten or raped instead of defending myself. Ok. I think you should tell your wife, your sister, or your daughter that too. I wish that the very second I call a police officer he would magically materialize. "Oh, wait, Mr. Badguy, let me dig my cell phone out of my purse so I can call the cops. Wait the 10 to 30 minutes for them to come to the scene. Please put your raping and mugging on hold."

_____________________________________

him:
You can kill someone ONLY if he's pointing another gun at you, and that he treatens you."

me:
In that case, what is going to equalize you with the badguy with if he's got a gun pointed at you? Harsh language? I can't kill to defend myself if the badguy is attacking with a chainsaw? ( In 1993, shortly after the town I was living in was named All-American City, a crazed uncle chased down his nephew and killed him with a chainsaw.) How about a baseball bat? Knife? What do you do if you see a man attacking a loved one? Tell him to stop and wait until the police arrive?

him:
YES. You can strike back when some1 attacks you. BUT WITH THE SAME KIND OF "Tools" that your agresser is using.Unless,

me:
I think you forgot to finish your sentence. Anyways, according to you, I should....
....find a pipe wrench if the badguy is attacking me with a pipe wrench. (Wait, Mr. Badguy, let me find my toolbox!)
...find a baseball bat if he's attacking me with a baseball bat.
...use a 5" serrated Old Hickory steak knife if he is using a 5" serrated Old Hickory steak knife.

In that case, Mr. Pringels, you have just given me permission to have a pegboard full of every weapon and tool known to man. I think I'll have my own hardware store in my house now, and create some kind of mobile system to tote all these around with me.
_____________________________________

him:
"Thank God, I dont live in the United States. YOU PEOPLE ARE SICK. KIDS GET KILLED EVERY DAY AND STILL YOU THINK GUNS ARE GOOD."

me:
Thank goodness I do live in the United States, a country that allows me the right to defend myself, my property, and my loved ones.

him:
NO. WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? THERE ARE COURTS, JUDGES, POLICE OFFICERS TO TAKE CARE OF THAT. As a citizen, you CANT make justice by yourself.

me:
Courts and judges take care of the problem AFTER the fact. Police can take care of the problem during the fact IF they make it there on time. Considering most crimes can happen in under 5 minutes, I'm not betting on the cops. And I'm not
going to allow myself or a third party to be beaten, raped, mugged, or any harm come to them if I can help it. You have chosen to be a helpless victim, Mr. Pringels, but not me.
__________________________________

me:
Guns are tools. Put one on a table. It's not going to spin around and shoot somebody on it's own. There is no bad gun. There are only bad people with guns. And since there are, good people will guns take up arms to defend themselves

him:
You're right. There are people that uses guns in bad ways. You need to believe that guns are not the answer. And I think that if only ONE man use a gun in bad way, then JUST FOR THAT, it should be prohibited. Speed Limit: it's not the whole world that goes too fast on highways. Only a few people do... It is now prohibited.

me:
In that case, Mr. Pringels, if someone jams a toothbrush up your a$$, all toothbrushes must be banned.
______________________________________

him:
There are too many "accidents". How many times did you use your gun to DEFEND yourself from an agresser with another gun...

me:
Never yet. But considering I am a prime target for a wide range of crimes, being petite, young, and female, it's better to be SAFE than SORRY.
_______________________________________

him:
Perhaps 1 or 2 times in a life-time, and I'm sure you mist him...

me:
Commenting on my accuracy with no firsthand knowledge of my capabilities?

him:
(in the States, because in Europe, you don't need to carry a gun like a cowboy and you can live a life without them)

me:
I'm sure that's why England and Australia have soaring cime rates after they decided to be totalitarian and ban firearms.

When firarms are banned, who do you think complies with the law? Do you think criminals will suddenly go, "Aw, gee, handguns are banned. I guess I'll have to turn mine in now." Or will they say, "Allright! Now I can mug people and don't
have to worry about them shooting me!"
________________________________________

him:
What I trying to say is that only for ONE accident, guns should be prohibited. Because if guns werent that easy to get, perhaps you wouldnt have to defend yourself... Did you think of that?

me:
Hmmm. "If guns weren't easy to get, I wouldn't have to defend myself." So in other words, If there were no guns, there would be no crime? Wow! So I guess the badguys won't rape me with a knife or threaten me with some other weapon? Neato!
_____________________________________

him:
"You are such a desperated country, we shouldn't have gone there in 1492"

me:
Luckily we got smart and booted you out in 1776.

him:
You're not even a "real american". You are European people that went there back in 1492... They were prisonners and people we didnt want anymore. They turned out to be "Americans"!!!

me:
Yes, some were prisoners. Some were the poor. Some were rejected because of their religion. Many were people who were tired of the totalitarian rule of the countries they were living in, and decided to come to a country where they
could be FREE.

You can call it what you like, but I am a REAL AMERICAN. It doesn't matter where you're from or what nationality you are or what color or religion you are. If you are a U.S. citizen, than you are an American. Being American is not a race, it's a belief in our Constitution and our Rights.
______________________________________

him:
"Ooh, by the way, I dont know you but I'm sure you're a ****ing racist too. Guns and racism always come along."

me:
Like how?

him:
Guns and racism ARE OFTEN RELATED...

me:
Explain how me having a gun makes me a racist, Mr. Pringels. Explain how I manage to have a black best friend, a jewish boyfriend, and good friends of every shade of the rainbow. Please explain.

Geez Runt-of-the-litter, I don't know how you can stomach it. The problem is that these people don't even see the need to be truthful, in todays PC society anything goes and if you state fantasy as truth by sheer force of will alone it is supposed to be that way. I have to agree w/ Munro Williams, the inmates are truely running the asylum.

That bright fella's original email is under http://www.a-human-right.com/idiot.txt His symptoms point to microcephalia and his manners, to rabies. Soon I'll need to get vaccinated just to read my email.

I wonder why I even bothered with a response...certainly a waste of breath and typing time.

That guy is a lost cause, but it does provide me with mild entertainment. Look in the dictionary under "dumba$$", and you'll find a nice picture of him. I've debated the weird women over at the Ms. forums on similar topics, and this guy makes them look intelligent.

Tamara,

Where the devil does that idiot live?

And since when is a Constitutional question in the United States the business of citizens of any other country?

Tell him to bugger off and count his Nazi/Socialist trading cards.

Doc Hudson,

That was runt's debate. (I can tell I wasn't chatting with the guy, because there are no computer-monitor-shaped holes in the wall in front of me.) She handled him nicely, eh? It reminded me of the scene from Monty Python's Holy Grail:

TFL's runt_: "Your arm's off!"

Socialist Bedwetter: "No it isn't!"

Since we all became subjects of the United Nations and the New World Order.
He's probably Dr. Evil from Austin Powers. "My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery..."

Easy availability

I remember when that slimebag Jon Corzine (D-NJ) was campaining here and in some community forum-type debate on a local news station, he was saying "anyone can just buy guns on any street corner in NJ" and the people in the audience were nodding and applauding him. I immediately vomited. Oh yeah, here in NJ the guns are just lying around to be picked up! It's so easy to buy a gun here it's amazing! I guess the people in the audience don't realize AIR RIFLES must be registered here.

Why won't anyone (in the media) ask the simple question "How will gun registration make people safer?" No one ever asks that. Here's the serial number from my Glock 21. It's XXX-XXX. Now go write that down on a piece of paper and file it. Feel safer now?

Sorry for the rant, but with all of the school shooting saturation on TV, it's just getting unbearable.

See, I have the opposite reaction. When I read things like that, I get really hopeful.

I mean, we're smarter than they are, AND we're better armed! How can we lose?

me:
Luckily we got smart and booted you out in 1776.

LMAO

Problem is, you never booted em out far enough, shoulda run em back all the way across the pond.....

I know I sure wish you guys hada kept Canada....

Someday if anyones bored, check out the fodder on the can.talk.guns news group. The posts from Stephen Jenuth (an anti gun civil liberties lawyer) and Terry Flanagan (a boring troll) are sometimes worth the price of admision.

An important point that too few people mention is that by allowing a criminal to commit crimes against you (mugging, rape, battery, etc.), and not defending yourself, you are teaching the criminal that he can get away with such behavior. Also, if you resist only a little, you may teach him that he needs to increase his initial violence to cow his victims' responses.

I believe that EVERYONE has the responsibility to deter crime and maintain the Rights of all citizens...

I second the 'Tamara for Congress' bit, but in regards to your comments about the media being illogical, why would you think they would be logical? This is not about logic, common sence, or justice, but control, and they will use any and all lies to manipulate the masses into supporting their 'gun-saftey legislation'. The question that we should be asking ourselves is "how can we best fight this battle"?

The badge says Sheriff's Office, not Assassin. Nowhere in the job description does it list "killing people". It does make mention of 'keeping the Peace', 'upholding the Constituition' and 'enforcing the laws of the State of Texas' (in that order), but nowhere does it mention 'killing people for some Belgian bonehead'.

I can just imagine this bozo calling 911 and smarming: "I need you to come over to my house quick and kill someone."

Quote:
Dear Mr. Pringle,

You are obviously ill-informed about the duties of Peace Officers. Not only are we not your personal assassins, we are not your personal bodyguard. Our duties are to the Community as a whole.

If you are in my Community, and threatened with lethal force, I will do my best to make sure your little pink butt goes home, but you don't get any guarantees.

Besides, my Daddy used to say that there are just some things a Man has to take care of himself, and keeping yourself and your family alive and unharmed is one of those things.

Anyone who told you that Life is Fair and that there would always be someone there to take care of you -- lied to you.

Now take your thumb out of your mouth, grow up and be a man.

Sincerely yours,
LawDog
You have more patience than I do, Runt_.

In his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "Belgium" was the dirtiest dirty word imaginable.

For too long we have been told lies.

The existence of the supposed European country of Belgium has been taken as gospel for years by members of the Liberati. It has long been held up as a shining example of Liberal philosophies in action. However, now is the time the truth be known. Belgium doesn't exist.

Belgium is, and has always been, a leftist ruse; a device applied to propagate the Liberal agenda throughout the world. Hijacking a real country for this use would be difficult at best; the people living there wouldn't stand for it (i.e. the fall of communism.) Thus the idea to invent an imaginary country, insert it into the global consciousness through the perversion of history, and use it as a tool of manipulation was born.

That was an amusing exchange.

However it seems that when faced with logic and reason.. Mr Pringle resorted to ad hoc personal attacks.

And that coment about a "Real American" ***?
Anyone, ANYONEwho comes to the US and gets citizenship INSTANTLY becomes a REAL AMERICAN.
